The Colts are 8-0.
They’re the NFL’s last remaining unbeaten team.
They’ve beaten three division leaders on the road.
They hold a three-game lead in the AFC South, and a two-game lead in the AFC.
And they’re not playing as well as they could.
"I like our team," Dungy said Monday, a day after the Colts’ 27-20 victory over the New England Patriots at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, Mass.
"We’re not playing as well as we played last year, but I like where we are, because I think we can make some of those improvements."
Dungy, speaking at his weekly next-day news conference at the Colts’ 56th Street Complex, said while the Colts still must improve their run defense – and while he didn’t like the turnovers and mistakes made against New England – Indianapolis has shown something this season it didn’t need to show last season.
An ability to win in close, tough situations.
The Colts last season started the season 13-0 and won all 13 of those games by seven or more points. That set an NFL record, but as Dungy has put it several times in recent weeks, Indianapolis this season is experiencing the “real NFL."
